Architecture, like music, is an art of atmosphere. It speaks to us not in words, but in tone, rhythm, and form. That is seen at DR Concert Hall in Copenhagen.
Resonance in Timber and Time - Hørning at the DR Concert Hall
Architecture, like music, is an art of atmosphere. It speaks to us not in words, but in tone, rhythm, and form. Nowhere is that more true than at the DR Concert Hall in Copenhagen - home of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and one of the city’s most celebrated architectural landmarks.
Designed by famous French architect Jean Nouvel, the DR Concert Hall is a study in contrast: grand yet intimate, sculptural yet deeply human. Its bold, blue-hued façade is unmistakable, but step inside and you’ll find something just as striking - solid Bilinga floorboards, crafted and supplied by Hørning.
Chosen for their warm tone, durability, and distinctive character, these planks play a quiet but essential role in shaping the acoustic and aesthetic experience of the hall. They ground the space. They absorb the light. They echo, gently, the resonance of the music.
A Shared Centennial
As it happens, 2025 marks a special milestone for both the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) and Hørning. DR celebrates 100 years of public broadcasting - of bringing culture, news, and music to the people. And at Hørning, we too mark a century of craftsmanship, building lasting wooden floors for buildings of meaning across Denmark and beyond.
To hear the Danish National Symphony Orchestra perform anniversary concerts in a space like this - where every detail has been composed with care - is a reminder of the power of great design. Not just to frame a moment, but to elevate it.
A Space for Legacy
The DR Concert Hall isn’t just a venue. It’s a legacy project. A building that will stand the test of time - just like the music performed within it, and the materials that give it warmth and depth.
We are proud that our Bilinga planks are part of this extraordinary setting. And we’re even prouder to see how materials, music, and architecture can come together to create something larger than the sum of its parts.
Because whether you're laying down melodies or floorboards - it all begins with a deep sense of care.
