Education is more than just books and classrooms - it’s about creating environments that inspire curiosity, growth, and connection.
Hørning's Contribution to Nuuk School
Education is more than just books and classrooms - it’s about creating environments that inspire curiosity, growth, and connection. In Greenland’s capital, the newly built Nuuk School – Atuarfik Inussuk, designed by KHR Architecture, stands as a testament to how thoughtful design can enhance learning spaces. At Hørning, we are proud to have contributed to this visionary project - not with floors, but with another crucial architectural element: wooden staircases.
Beyond Floors – Crafting Staircases for Learning
While we are known for our high-quality wooden flooring, Hørning’s expertise extends beyond the ground level. The staircases we have delivered for Nuuk School reflect the same dedication to craftsmanship, durability, and aesthetic excellence that define all our projects.
In a building dedicated to education, staircases are more than a means of moving between floors. They serve as gathering points, places for informal discussions, and quiet moments of reflection. Wood, with its natural warmth and tactile qualities, creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for students and teachers alike.

Sustainability and Durability in Extreme Climates
Building in Greenland presents unique challenges, with harsh weather conditions demanding materials that can withstand time and climate. Our wooden staircases offer not only durability but also sustainability, contributing to a healthy indoor climate in an educational setting. As architects and designers focus more on natural materials that promote well-being, wood remains an essential element in modern learning environments.
A Commitment to Quality and Collaboration
Nuuk School represents a forward-thinking approach to education, where architecture plays an integral role in shaping the learning experience. Hørning is honoured to be part of such projects, collaborating with leading architects to create functional and inspiring spaces.
For over 100 years, we have been refining our craft - whether in flooring or staircases - so that every project we contribute to stands the test of time. With Nuuk School, we continue this tradition, ensuring that every step students take is built on a foundation of quality and craftsmanship.
