Planks - Smoked Oak (Smoked Oak - Quercus Robur)

Ordinary oak wood is specially sorted and treated with ammonia – a process that takes approx. five weeks. The wood and the liquid are never in direct contact with each other, it is the ammonia fumes that give the oak the desired dark grey/brown appearance as the tannic acid in the oak wood is affected by the alkaline substance. The process is similar to the one which takes place in bogs, the only difference being that in nature it can take three to five hundred years. The natural staining penetrates deeply into the wood.
