Local environment
Hørning Parket Fabrik is making constant efforts to reduce the impact on the environment in the form of waste, emissions and noise. The company maintains formalised collaboration with the authorities on the issue of such environmental impacts.
Our production is CO2 positive. The energy consumed for heating and wood drying is obtained by utilising wood chips, planed off during manufacture. Surplus wood chips are sold for use in the production of fuel pellets. We purchase energy only for internal transportation and for our production machinery in the form of electricity from the public grid.
Our consumption of chemical agents is insignificant.
Working environment is given a high priority, and the company's management and safety committee are very active in constantly seeking to improve employee safety.

Raw materials
In our selection of wood suppliers, we place great importance on ensuring that each supplier has a serious approach to environmental issues. For this reason, we prioritise companies which use and actively promote supplies from sustainable forestry.
At the moment, only 1-2% of the world's forests are certified under the global environmental standards FSC and PEFC. Therefore, supplies from forests certified under these standards are far too inadequate to cover the demand. In areas where tropical forests are under threat, most of these threats stem from deforestation/burning, not from the commercial utilisation of the original forest. There are, however, exceptions to the rule in the form of areas of ill-performed forestry where the forest is therefore not preserved.
The utilisation of wood benefits the world's forest areas, because it adds value to trees - and this is the only thing which will give local populations and forest owners an incentive to preserve the forest. Maintaining sustainable forestry is possible also in tropical countries. This sustainability remains the ever-important target, and Hørning aims to constantly increase its use of certified woods and woods from other sustainable forestry.
